Kathey Avery, RN, BSN
Worker Owner, Founding Member, Director of Clinical & Community Connections at ABIPA
Kathey Avery grew up in Bat Cave, North Carolina, and was among the first African-American students to enroll at the University of North Carolina Asheville. She got her nursing degree in 1983 from Western Carolina University. She worked as an oncology nurse for 22 years at Mission/ St. Joseph’s hospitals. She started at ABIPA in 2008 as a part-time paid nursing professional.
Kathey was recognized for the 2016 Unsung Heroes award and 2017 Lillian Carter Award for Exemplary Nursing.
JéWana Grier-McEachin
Worker-Owner, Founding Member, Executive Director of Asheville Buncombe Institute of Parity Achievement (ABIPA)
JéWana has 22 years of business management experience and has been an entrepreneur since her college years. She started as a program manager with ABIPA in 2008 and transitioned into the Executive Director position in 2012. It has been in the vision of ABIPA to establish a social enterprise arm to support the sustainability of the non-profit for over a decade. She enjoys supporting others in making their dreams transition into reality and deeply believes that financial independence is an invaluable tool.

Jennifer Poore
Worker-Owner, Founding Member
Jennifer loves to serve others and works hard to help meet the needs of her community. She is currently working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work at Mars Hill University. She previously studied Nursing at AB Tech. She has an entrepreneurial spirit, owning and operating ‘A Basket for All Occasions’ with her husband, Ricardo, for over 7 years.

Angelique Scott, LPN
Worker-Owner, Founding Member
Angelique has over 10 years of nursing experience with a variety of healthcare groups. She is a Licensed Practical Nurse, certified since 2016. Beyond her nursing experience, Angelique owned and operated A&C Janitorial & Cleaning Services for 18 years.
Yvette Singleton
Worker-Owner, Founding Member, Community Service Navigator for ABIPA
Yvette began working with ABIPA part-time in 2013 as a Community Service Navigator, after working third shift full time at a nursing home as a CNA. This shift provided a perfect opportunity to earn more income for her family of 6 while doing something that she loves. Yvette is currently pursuing a Bachelors of Science in Nursing.
